Saturday March 17th 2007. Wesley
traveled to Augusta Georgia to
participate in a Round Robin tournament of Basketball for the YMCA.
Back at the beginning of March Wesley was one of two chosen
by his team mates to represent them as their All Star representatives.
Skills, Leadership and All Around team playing traits were used for
their selections. Wesley is well liked and respected by his team mates.
He enjoyed a great weekend staying at a YMCA campsite and
hanging out with the other All Star team members.
Saturday, their team played other YMCA All-star teams from the Augusta
Georgia Area. They won a few and they lost a few but, Wesley
said the overall experience was great for him.
Wesley not only plays Basketball for the YMCA but has also been
asked to sing for the "Relay for Life" Cancer day and also
for the "Fallen Police Officers" for the Baker County Sheriff's office.
Wesley is proud to be a Christian and loves to sing about him and
wants to be a witness wherever he goes.
He feels that all the things that he excels in and participates in
are all blessings and rewards from the Lord. He stated that he
gives the Lord total praise and will go through any door opened to him.
Please go to our guestbook and give Wesley a At-a-Boy or words
of encouragement.
2006 National Quartet Talent
Search
Southern Joy was selected as the number one group
out of 45 this year at the convention in Louisville, KY.
They won a recording contract with Sonsound Records, a half page
spread in the Singing News Magazine and a national radio single
release.
They are accepting bookings now for the 2007 calendar year. Act
quickly to get your date on the books.
Junior Combs had no idea that when his
last child Wesley was born (1994) that this would ultimately start a
ministry for the Combs family 11 years later.
In 2006 Southern Joy began singing in local churches and concert halls
whenever the Lord opened the door. Early in the group’s ministry together,
they entered The Spirit of the Suwannee talent contest and won 1st place.
Then just two weeks later they also entered the Worlds largest Southern
Gospel contest (Bonifay All Night Gospel Sing) and won 1st place. This
just confirmed to Junior that Southern Joy definitely has a place on the
road spreading God’s plan of salvation.
When asked why they want to sing? Wesley, Jessica and Junior quickly
responded “Jesus” is why. We are committed to bringing this lost and dying
world the message of Jesus Christ through our songs, testimonies and by
the daily life that we live.
Junior’s wife of 19 years, Gayle and his 12 year old daughter Alicia have
been a vital part of his ministry. They are the ones who have supported,
inspired and encouraged him to keep his ministry going with the family.
The versatility of Southern Joy is a crowd pleaser for the young and young
at heart as their music stirs the spirit and fulfills your musical thirst.
You will enjoy a little laughter and probably shed some tears as the group
ministers to your soul. You will be blessed as the group sings old hymns
of the church as well as new original music.
Junior’s 17 year old daughter Jessica has been told by many listeners that
her Soprano/Tenor voice is angelic and high as the heavens. Her pitches
and excellent quality tones have been complimented on by the best which
helps motivate her to strive to perfect her voice. She has been
complimented and encouraged by such professionals as Karen Peck, Lauren
Harris, Michael Combs, Jason Reynolds and many more. Her plans are to
attend college and gain her teaching degree in music. She further
clarifies that if the Lord has different plans for her then she is willing
to step through what ever door he opens for her. Traveling Fulltime in the
ministry field is also a desire of hers.
Junior’s 11 year old Son Wesley has amazed crowds everywhere because of
his anointed vocal presentation and awesome stage presence. He has
received notable compliments from such artist as Arthur Rice, Gene
McDonald, Libby Perry Stuffle, Randy Shelnut, Danny Funderburke, Gerald
Wolf and many more. Wesley has a gift of instantly attracting people to
his contagious personality. His desire is to be home schooled so that he
can travel and minister for the Lord Fulltime.
Wesley has already made a remarkable impression on the Southern Gospel
field and I am sure he will be very successful at anything he places his
mind and heart on. His ultimate goal is to sing with his family and
possibly one day sings with Gold City!
Junior Combs is no stranger to Southern Gospel music. He has blessed
hearts for many years with his powerful Tenor voice and great Piano
skills. He is noted for singing with groups such as The Cedar Creek
Quartet, Rushing Wind, The Canaanland Boys, The Coastalmen and New
Gathering Quartet. He calls it an honor to have sung with each of them. He
credits his mother, sisters and several of his choral directors for
inspiring him to travel and sing Southern Gospel music.
Junior has won many awards for his vocal performance as well as his
overall musical ability. He has won several recognitions locally and
nationally for his contributions to Southern Gospel. Junior has received
personal compliments by such artists as Jim Hamel, Ray Dean Reese, Randy
Shelnut, Karen Peck, Mark Blackwood, Randy Perry and many more. His plans
are to continue molding his children in the way the Lord would have them
go and keep his Tenor voice polished and ready for the Lord’s work.
Junior Combs and Southern Joy doesn’t measure success by how many number
one songs they may record or the number of awards they may receive. Their
responsibility is to utilize their vocal gifts and heart touching
testimonies to allow the Holy Spirit to touch the lives of the listeners.
Junior Combs and Southern Joy has had the opportunity to share the stage
with such artists as, The Kingdom Heirs, Karen Peck and New River, Danny
Funderburke and Mercy’s Way, Ricky Atkinson and Compassion, The Down east
Boys, The Florida Boys, The Dixie Echoes, Michael Combs, The Inspirations,
The Perry’s, Gold City, The Kingsmen, The Browns and Crystal River.
Note: “If Junior Combs and Southern Joy has not been to your church, you
have really missed a blessing. They are the sweetest and the most anointed
family I have ever met and are just as friendly off stage as they are on.
They were so humble that day and were strictly focused on the lost and the
people needing healings, deliverance and revival in their lives. You must
Experience Southern Joy, they will bless your hearts to the core and leave
you wanting more!”
I know because I was saved in one of their services!
